BACKGROUND: The City of San José is home to one of the largest immigrant communities in the nation. The success of our city depends on the ability of all residents, regardless of immigration status, to engage fully in civic life. To this end, all residents should be able to access City facilities and properties for services without fear. In recent weeks and months, we have observed across the country the commandeering of cityowned facilities for immigration enforcement, an activity that is solely the responsibility of the federal government.
