There are costs that are necessary for any association to function, and even modest funding can enable associations to carry out impactful programs, build community engagement, and maintain momentum in their neighborhoods. A more balanced allocation model would help ensure that public resources benefit a wider range of communities, reduce inequities between neighborhoods, and reinforce the shared goal of improving quality of life across San Jose. Furthermore, as district leadership groups and councilmember offices work to grow the number of neighborhood associations in our city, a funding approach that provides those new NAs with some level of support would ultimately serve more residents.
