RULES AGENDA: 6/11/25 ITEM: B.12 Memorandum TO: SUBJECT: RULES AND OPEN GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE FROM: Councilmember Ortiz RETROACTIVE PURCHASE OF RAFFLE PRIZES DATE: May 6th, 2025 DATE: May 6th, 2025 APPROVED: RECOMMENDATION 1. 2. Retroactively approve the purchase of 2 children’s bicycles by Council District 5 for $170 for the “One Comm-UNITY” raffle giveaway. Place the item on the June 17, 2025, City Council Agenda for action. BACKGROUND On April 4, 2025 our office purchased 2 children's bicycles at the price of $72.00 and 98.00 to raffle to the community in District 5. Currently, this expenditure is not covered under any of the permitted uses outlined in City Council Expenditure and Reimbursement Policy 0-38. The bikes were purchased to raffle at the "One Comm-UNITY" event at Mt. Pleasant Highschool, located in District 5. The prizes were won by families from the community. The families were incredibly grateful, as the bikes provide safe recreation for youth and families, supporting mobility, health, and connection in a part of the East Side where such resources are deeply needed.
